Alexandra Ibingira Bio
Designer Alexandra Ibingira grew up in New York, the daughter of Uganda’s Ambassador to the U.N. While art and design were her passions, Alexandra’s exposure to global diplomacy shaped her interest in international relations. Her early career brought her to her family’s native East Africa, where she worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, Uganda. She spent four years dividing time between weekday work as a liaison between resident embassies, international organizations, and the ministry promoting diplomatic relations and weekends as manager of her family’s maize and dairy farm, overseeing cattle, mill operations, and staff.
After marrying a fellow diplomat, Alexandra lived in Switzerland, France, Italy, and Cote d’Ivoire before returning to the U.S. Alexandra rekindled her love of design – by this point enriched with multi-cultural and global perspective – and entered Drexel University’s interior design program.
She joined k YODER design in 2016 where her design approach became a perfect fit. As one who came later to design practice, Alexandra has both an abundance of enthusiasm for her work and a diverse perspective from which to draw inspiration and ideas.
Alexandra holds a Master of Science degree in Interior Architecture & Design from Drexel University; a post-graduate diploma in International Relations and Diplomacy from Institut International D’Administration Publique in Paris, France; and a certificate in Advanced Italian Language from Inlingua Language School of Geneva, Switzerland. She received a B.A. in French and International Studies from the University at Albany, State University of New York. Alexandra is a member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and is fluent in French and Italian.
