Kevin Yoder, AIA, LEED AP

Principal, Founder, and Design Director

Kevin Yoder’s leadership and imagination guide the kYd studio and its projects. His aesthetic vision – refined, classic, livable modernism – sets the tone for award-winning work that has been featured in regional and international media. But most important to Kevin and his approach is the notion of livability. While Kevin’s background in five-star hotel design means he understands luxury, he remains grounded in the belief that real lives are the biggest influencers of quality design.

As design director, Kevin leverages over 30 years of experience shaping integrated architecture and interiors projects. He spent two decades in large architecture practices, where he led projects for high-profile hospitality, corporate, and institutional clients. Working with international hoteliers in particular exposed him to materials, methods, and a keen ability to design for the tightest of spaces, abiding the notion of ‘a place for everything and everything in its place.’ Kevin’s penchant for architecture began as a kid, when he spent countless hours rearranging the Reading Eagle newspaper’s stock house plans, many of which were in the mid-century modern style of the time. When Kevin founded kYd in 2010, he did so with a personal, client-focused philosophy and a full-circle return to the residential designs of his youth.

Kevin continues to excel at refining and improving existing homes. He leverages his professional background and education in architecture and structural engineering to solve design problems – especially in renovations – with unexpected solutions. He’s constantly adjusting and thinking critically to help projects reach their fullest potential. Whether that means maximizing the floor plan of a condo or rowhouse or updating the architecture of a midcentury master, Kevin always finds creative and beautiful solutions that respect their context and elevate the experience of those who live there.

Kevin holds a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Drexel University. He is a registered architect in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware; a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA); and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP). Active in his neighborhood and Philadelphia’s larger context, Kevin values quality architecture and its place within the community and the environment.

Kevin lives in Society Hill with his husband and teenage son. He maintains a lifelong enthusiasm for all things architecture and design, from traveling to visit architectural sites to checking out the latest modern hotel or restaurants. He appreciates indoor-outdoor living, gardening, and landscape design. Kevin also enjoys attending Penn State football games and spending time at home and out and about in his neighborhood.
